Born in Madeira Island, Igor Pjörrt (b. 1996) is a visual artist based in Paris traversing the entanglements of masculinity and intimacy in their work. Rooted in an insular upbringing, Pjörrt’s early image-making reflected on the conditions of distance and temporality, eventually musing over the intricacies of identity and the desire to transgress it. Since then, they have been approaching photography as a tool of flight, seeking avenues of personal revelation. With the use of a colour-flooded visual language, Igor creates sensuous and painterly compositions, often depicting nautical and crepuscular scenes. Through visceral imagery, Pjörrt delves into auto-fiction as a genre in their personal work, exploring the extent of what they call ‘confessional photography’.
